The numbers
Hudhud is the hoopoe — the bird sent out to look for water who kept flying instead, found an entire kingdom nobody had mapped, and came home three days late with the smell of it still on him. Orange crest permanently raised. Genuinely does not understand why anyone is annoyed.

The Tale of Hudhud
He came back late, with a story nobody at court was prepared to believe.

The hoopoe had been sent out to survey water. He surveyed water for about an hour, got bored, and kept going — south, past the last edge of the known map, until the land turned green and the air went sweet with citron and Sicilian orange.

There was a city down there. He circled it twice. There was a queen in it, and a throne, and a hall where they burned frankincense and drank black tea so dark it looked like ink — and not one person in his own kingdom had ever heard of any of it.

He flew home for three days on ginger, cinnamon and stubbornness. When he landed they asked where he had been. He said: somewhere you have not imagined yet.

They did not believe him. So he described it. The citrus on the wind, the tea, the smoke off the resin, the wood of the doors — until the hall went quiet, because a place described that precisely is a place that exists.
That is the whole trick. Describe it well enough and it stops being imaginary.
